The story behind the motif
Canvas with the beautiful painting Young man at his window created in 1876 by Gustave Caillebotte - a French impressionist painter. Caillebotte was part of the Impressionist circle and exhibited in several of their joint exhibitions.
When Caillebotte first exhibited this painting, he presented it not as a portrait but as a genre scene, entitled Jeune homme à sa fenêtre (Young man at his window). As a model, Caillebotte used his brother René, who stands in the family's newly built apartment building in the corner of rue de Lisbonne and rue de Miromesnil in the 8th arrondissement of Paris.
