In 1673, Charles XI had five favourite horses portrayed life-size—the beginning of a royal horse gallery that probably grew to more than twenty portraits. It was more than a private interest: in the 17th century, noble horses were princely status symbols and coveted gifts between courts.

The story behind the motif

 

Canvas with a painting from 1673 by the Swedish nobleman and artist David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl. He has received the honorary name The father of Swedish painting and is known for the claim Art presents riddles that could not be solved by everyone. The work is a portrait of Karl XI's life horse, the Blue Tiger.

We deliver worldwide and always offer free shipping! Depending on the country you are shipping to, delivery may involve certain customs duties and taxes – no customs duties or taxes apply to deliveries within the EU or Norway.

Delivery time is normally around 5–7 business days within the Nordic countries, as we handcraft our canvas artworks in our factory in Sweden, and the canvas fabric also needs to dry before we stretch it over a wooden frame and ship it to you.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
