A Gift in Velvet
This watercolour was not originally a loose city view, but part of an elaborate album of 66 Gothenburg watercolours by Ludvig Messmann. On 23 July 1890, Alida Magnus gave the album to Erik Magnus; the original box was lined with brown velvet and the cover bore a personal gilt inscription.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with a beautiful painting of Stora Nygatan in Gothenburg. The motif is facing north and to the left is the synagogue and to the right the Gardening Association. The artwork was created by the Danish artist Ludvig Messmann in 1890 and is part of a whole series of beautiful Gothenburg motifs.

Ludvig Messmann was born in Denmark and moved to Gothenburg in 1859, where he later immortalized the city in a series of paintings, mainly in oil and watercolour.

Messman's motif is part of our collection to celebrate Gothenburg's 400th anniversary.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
