Few Swedish female figures continue to engage and provoke as much as Elin Wägner (1882-1949). Elin was a Swedish writer and feminist. She has become best known for her commitment to women's suffrage and for co-founding Save the Children in 1919. She was a member of the Swedish Academy from 1944 and was one of the portal figures of the women's movement and the peace movement.
This image is a clipping from Elin Wägner's third novel The Pen Shaft , which was published in 1910 and became a great sales success. In the picture we see a portrait of Elin with a quote:
"The strength to persevere in the work, it comes when you start to feel solidarity with your gender, so that its pain becomes your own pain, its humiliation your own humiliation. I have spoken to many men about the woman question, and I have heard many points of view, but as yet I have heard too few say: they are also people .”
