A Preserved Working Study
This painting was a working study, not a finished statement: Albert Edelfelt made it as a preliminary study for Girls in a Boat. It thus preserves an unusual intermediate stage in the artist’s process—a work connected to a larger composition, but one that also acquired a life of its own in the collection.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the beautiful painting Lady in a Boat by Albert Edelfelt from 1886. The painting depicts a woman in a beautiful dress sitting in a boat on a still water. The beautiful colors of the painting suggest that the sun has begun to set over the horizon.

Albert Edelfelt was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame. As a 19-year-old, Edelfelt went to Antwerp in 1873 to study history painting. He then continued his painting studies in Paris, where in 1800 he received, among other things, a medal for the painting Ett barns likfärd (1879).

We deliver worldwide and always offer free shipping! Depending on the country you are shipping to, delivery may involve certain customs duties and taxes – no customs duties or taxes apply to deliveries within the EU or Norway.

Delivery time is normally around 5–7 business days within the Nordic countries, as we handcraft our canvas artworks in our factory in Sweden, and the canvas fabric also needs to dry before we stretch it over a wooden frame and ship it to you.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
