The Göta Canal was inaugurated on 26 September 1832 and present at the inauguration was Sweden's King Karl XIV Johan. Göta Kanal's biggest attraction is Berg's locks. During the summer, thousands of boats pass by and see how the masses of water flow in the locks.
Karl XIV Johan was the first Bernadotte. The childless Charles XIII adopted Jean Baptiste Bernadotte from France when he was 47 years old. He then had a long professional career behind him and was one of Napoleon's marshals. He was elected Swedish crown prince in 1810 and took the royal name Karl XIV Johan.
