The Frame Was Designed for the Painting
Angel did not receive a standard frame afterwards. Abbott Handerson Thayer asked the architect Stanford White to design a Renaissance-inspired tabernacle frame specifically for the painting. The frame was therefore conceived as part of the whole from the outset—an unusual collaboration between painter and architect that makes the presentation of the work as carefully considered as the picture surface itself.

The story behind the motif

Abbott Handerson Thayer is known today for his ethereal angels, portraits of women and children, landscapes and delicate floral paintings. This canvas print of the painting Angel was created by Handerson Thayer in 1887.

The painting is both a portrait of his daughter Mary at age eleven and an allegory of hope and spirituality. Thayer manipulated the color of the painting with brooms, scrapers, his fingers, and even a paint tube to achieve his effects.

Delivery time is normally around 5–7 business days within the Nordic countries, as we handcraft our canvas artworks in our factory in Sweden, and the canvas fabric also needs to dry before we stretch it over a wooden frame and ship it to you.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
