The story behind the motif
Poster with a dramatic picture of Stureplan from 1900. The picture shows Birger Jarlsgatan looking south towards Nybroviken as well as the Språkmästaren quarter and KM Lundberg's department store which was inaugurated in 1898. In 1902 the department store was transformed into Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) and moved to hamngatan where it is still located today.
The name Sture in Stureplan is after the noble Sture family, including Sten Sture the elder, and the place has long been the center of Stockholm's entertainment with shopping, restaurants, cinemas, bars and later nightclubs.
