The story behind the motif
Canvas with the painting View from the Windows of the Fürstenberg Gallery. The painting was created between 1883 and 1885 by the Swedish artist Hugo Birger. The motif is painted from a perspective from the window of the Fürstenbergska gallery with a view of Brunnsparken in Gothenburg.
Hugo Birger was a Swedish artist who was mainly active in Paris. Several of Birger's paintings can be found at Gothenburg's art museum.
The Fürstenbergska gallery is one of the most appreciated and internationally recognized parts of the Gothenburg Museum of Art. The collection provides a unique insight into the dramatic Nordic artistic life of the 1880s and 1890s and contains some of the leading works from the period.
