62 Letters to Thiel
In 1906, when the painting was created, Ernest Thiel was in the midst of the undertaking that would give Stockholm one of the largest Munch collections outside Norway. Thiel’s archive contains 62 letters from Munch; many are handwritten receipts for paintings and prints that the patron bought directly from the artist.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the painting The Oak by Edvard Munch. The work depicts a stately oak in front of a sun. The grass and the few leaves the tree has left are yellow, indicating that it is autumn if not a prolonged summer drought.

Edvard Munch is Norway's foremost artist and became a source of inspiration for German Expressionism. Munch's works are inspired by existential themes such as melancholy, jealousy and anxiety, but also the Norwegian nature and places where he lived.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
