Before the North Sea
Painted around 1880, during Homer’s return to Gloucester – a period when he concentrated on watercolour. The following year he travelled to England and stayed near the North Sea for two years; the experience gave his seascapes a new weight that would shape the rest of his career.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with a beautiful painting by the American artist Winslow Homer (1836-1910).

Created in the 1880s, the painting depicts a sailboat heading out of Gloucester – a coastal town in Massachusetts known for its fishing and rich maritime traditions.

Winslow Homer was one of the most prominent American artists of his time, and was particularly noted for his maritime and landscape paintings. His work, "Sailing off Gloucester", reflects Homer's love of the sea and his skill with watercolor.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
