Before GB, there was Choklad-Thule
When the image was taken, Choklad-Thule’s factory on Kungsholms strand stood at the centre of a Swedish ice-cream breakthrough. The company began selling factory-made ice cream by the piece in 1928 and merged with Mjölkcentralen in 1942. Together they bought Alaska Glace and formed Glace-Bolaget – the predecessor of GB.

The story behind the motif

Kungsholm's beach to the west from Sankt Eriksbron in 1930. On the left we see the large factory building that belonged to Choklad-Thule (AB Förenade Chokladfabrikerna). In the background we see the Stadshagen where the Water Tower looms.

Choklad-Thule was Sweden's first ice cream manufacturing company and also sold sweets. After a number of takeovers and splits, Choklad-Thule is today GB Glace and Cloetta. Among Choklad-Thule's products were Plopp, Roman arches, Tulo and Mums-mums.
