A Vision from Faust
The painting is also known as The Vision of Faust. It refers to Walpurgis Night in Goethe’s drama, where Mephistopheles leads Faust up Mount Brocken while the witches gather for their sabbath. In 1878, Falero thus created a pictorial version of a literary scene already well known to European audiences.

Luis Ricardo Falero was a Spanish painter specializing in nude women, myths, witches and fantasy. This particular painting by Falero is considered one of the great works of art of the 19th century and is still debated today.
