The story behind the motif
Movie poster poster for The More the Merrier, a charming American feature film from 1943 directed by George Stevens. Starring Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Charles Coburn and Richard Gaines, this film takes you back to 1940s Hollywood.

The poster captures the lighthearted and romantic spirit of the film, where the plot revolves around young woman Connie Milligan (Arthur) who rents out part of her apartment during the housing shortage in Washington DC during World War II. It leads to a series of comical and heartwarming events as she finds herself in an unexpected love triangle with her new tenant, the elderly Mr. Dingle (Coburn) and the charming Joe Carter (McCrea).

The film was a huge success and was praised by critics and audiences. It was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Actress (Jean Arthur), Best Director (George Stevens), Best Picture, Best Story (Frank Ross, Robert Russell) and Best Original Screenplay. In addition, Charles Coburn won a well-deserved Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Mr. Dingle.
