Tug-of-war competition at Stockholm Stadium during the Stockholm Olympics in 1912. Stockholm Stadium had been built just for the competition and was brand new. In the tug of war, Sweden won, whose team consisted of 6 police officers from Stockholm, a police officer from Gothenburg and a fisherman from Sandhamn. In second place came England whose team consisted of police officers from London.

2,600 athletes participated, of which 60 were women, representing 2.23%. Although it may seem small, the percentage was high based on what was common in the early 20th century.

One of the Games' most notable competitors was Shiso Kanaguri, the Japanese marathon runner who mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the race, only to return to Sweden and complete the distance just over 55 years later. A TV series will soon be launched to recreate this mysterious event.
