The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful painting painted in 1878 by the Danish artist Carl Rasmussen. The painting is called The morning after a storm and depicts the sky breaking open over a still stormy sea. At sea, two ships also sail over the blue waves.
Rasmussen was particularly known for his marine motifs and in 1872 he received a travel grant from the Academy of Fine Arts and spent eleven months in the Netherlands, Belgium, Paris and Italy. Rasmussen died on the way home from a study trip to Greenland, after falling overboard while painting on the ship's deck.
