Seneca, or Seneca the Younger, lived between 4 BC - 65 AD. and is a famous Roman philosopher, statesman and dramatist. Seneca was the fifth Roman emperor Nero's teacher, which meant a very influential position in the Roman Empire.
Seneca's work as a philosopher and writer of tragedies has gained great importance for posterity. During the Renaissance, Seneca's tragedies were seen as an ideal for drama and they had a great influence on Shakespeare, among others.
