The story behind the motif
Beautiful poster with the painting Scene from the West Coast of Sweden, created in 1873 by Johan Edvard Bergh. In the picture we see people working at a small port, while a few rays of sun shine through the clouds.
Johan Edvard Bergh was a Swedish landscape painter and lawyer. His artistic path began after a trip to Gotland, where he met a number of artists who inspired him. Bergh then began to abandon law as painting took up more of his time.
His first attempt to enter the Academy of Fine Arts was rejected, but this did not weigh Bergh down. He continued to paint and in the meantime had several oil exhibitions at the Stockholm Art Association. Bergh then began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm in 1852.
Artist: Johan Edvard Bergh | Created: 1873.
