The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage nude sketch by Henri Matisse. The motif is called Nude three quarters, part of head cropped (1913) . The original is at the Yale University Art Gallery.

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French artist who , along with Picasso, is the artist who has been most important to the development of 20th century painting. Matisse is one of the foremost among the early modernists.
