Poster with an illustration from Lasse-little in the garden, one of Elsa Beskow's many beloved children's books from 1923.

In the motif, little Lasse, his friend September and the garden's peas and beans dance around Fabror Fågelskrämma. An excerpt from the book on the subject:

"How's Uncle Scarecrow doing these days?" said Lars. "Only rubbish, only trudge, rarely sun, often slush, rheumatism in every limb, tell father I want to go home!" said the scarecrow.
"Here come all the peas and beans!" cried September. »We have to cheer the old man up a bit. Sing him that song that I taught you!' And before Lasse knew it, he was drawn into a ring dance around the scarecrow, and everyone was singing at the top of their lungs:
»Come, let us swing about so merrily, sing our gayest tune! Uncle with the coat stands in the middle of our ring, him we gladly praise. Here he has stood from spring to autumn to the horror of many, but to the comfort of all of us. The thieves don't dare steal from us at all, when they see uncle from behind. The horses shy, and the children give neck, the dog, he growls the naughty one. Only the birds, they are chirping loudly, the birds are not afraid at all!»

Elsa Beskow was a well-known and much-loved Swedish author and illustrator who wrote and illustrated over 40 books that have become classics in Swedish children's literature. Lasse-little in the garden is part of a long series of stories in which Beskow depicts children's adventures in nature, with a mixture of realism and fantasy.

Through Lasse's adventure, the reader learns about the garden's various plants and animals, while the book conveys important values such as respect for nature and an understanding of its cycles.
