William Morris (1834–1896) was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and Crafts movement. He combined close observations of nature with knowledge of older textiles, wallpapers, and ornament, and his aim was to make art and beauty part of everyday life. Honeysuckle is a clear example of how a real plant can be transformed into a repeating pattern without losing its organic feel. This makes the design easy to style with: it is historic but not museum-like, richly detailed yet at the same time cohesive and harmonious.
