The Grant That Made the Lighthouse Possible
Plans for a lighthouse at Hoburgen had been discussed for a long time, but it was only with a state grant in 1844 that the project could move from idea to construction. The tower was built to designs by J. T. Byström. Two years later, the lighthouse was complete—the decisive turning point was therefore the funding and design work, not merely the lighting of the lamp.

The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful drawing of the Hoburg lighthouse from 1846. On the picture we see the text: "Lighthouse on Gottland's southern cape. Carlskrona, March, 1846" .
Hoburg lighthouse is a lighthouse at Hoburgen in southern Gotland and was lit on October 1, 1846. Since December 7, 2017, the lighthouse is a state building monument. Carl von Linné already proposed in 1741 that a lighthouse should be erected on the site, and there were many complaints about Gotland's poor lighthouse lighting, but it was not until the middle of the 19th century that the plans were put into action.
