The Book That Stopped Midway
The illustration formed part of Giorgio Gallesio’s Pomona italiana, a lavish work published in 41 parts over more than two decades. Its 160 color plates were printed using several graphic techniques and finished by hand. When Gallesio died in 1839, the final promised parts failed to appear—the work was never fully completed.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a classic plant illustration from the famous Italian the botanist Giorgio Gallesio (1772-1839). Gallesio was an Italian botanist and scientist who specialized in citrus ie trees that produce citrus fruit.

Gallesio's first book Traité du citrus was first printed in 1811 and became very popular.
