The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Foxes by Bruno Liljefors from 1886. The painting portrays small birds and two foxes in a beautiful forest landscape.
In 1882, Bruno Liljefors traveled to Düsseldorf to study animal painting and today he is Sweden's most famous nature painter of all time. Liljefors, in contrast to contemporary "idyllic" animal painting, depicted the everyday life of wild animals with their movements and adaptation to the landscape.
A more unknown side of Bruno Liljefors is his career as a variety artist and elite gymnast specializing in bars. He was very athletic and performed at both Sveasalen and the Royal Opera.
Artist: Bruno Liljefors (1860-1939) | Created: 1886.
