The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Five Butterflies by the French artist Odilon Redon from 1912. The motif shows five colorful butterflies against a natural colored background.
Odilon's real name was Bertrand and he came from Bordeaux, France. As an artist, he is known for his imaginative dreamscapes. He was interested in the reality of fantasy and tried to embody the feelings and dreams he experienced. The result was a strong mix of delightful and slightly more terrifying motifs. His works have inspired Edvard Munch, Fernand Khnopff and Jan Toorop, among others.
