The goat is a pun
The goat in the bock-beer advertisement has a linguistic-historical explanation. The beer style came from the town of Einbeck, but when it began to be brewed in Munich in the seventeenth century, the name “Ainpöckisch” was distorted in Bavarian dialect into “Oanpock” – and finally Bockbier. The animal was therefore a visual pun, not the beer’s original symbol.
