Mahatma Gandhi was a jurist, politician and spiritual leader from India who lived between 1869-1948. In India he is known as the Father of the Country and Great Spirit.
Gandhi was a leading figure in India's independence movement and his ideas of non-violent resistance ultimately led India to independence in 1947. Gandhi's ideas inspired civil rights and freedom movements around the world. Among other things, Gandhi led campaigns across India for poverty alleviation and women's emancipation.
