The story behind the motif

The Aurora Borealis (northern lights) is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the solar wind collides with the Earth's magnetic field, creating streaks of light in the sky that are mainly visible in the polar regions. 

The image shows a beautiful green light play of the aurora borealis in the night sky over ice and sea.
