An ancient second-hand attribution
The route to Aristotle leads through Rome. The wording is preserved in Seneca’s On Tranquillity of Mind, where Seneca presents it as Aristotle’s words. It does not, however, appear in Aristotle’s surviving writings – the quotation is therefore an ancient second-hand attribution, rather than a reliably verbatim quotation from Aristotle.

The story behind the motif

No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness - Aristotle (384 BC -322 BC)

This famous quote comes from Aristotle, one of history's most eminent scientists, whose contributions and ideas profoundly influenced scientific thought from the 4th century BC until the early 17th century. In the Middle Ages, challenging Aristotle's theories could be perilous, as the Church's scientific doctrine was deeply intertwined with religious belief and the ancient wisdom of Aristotle. Aristotle, alongside Plato and Socrates, stands as a pillar of Western philosophy, marking a foundational influence on the evolution of philosophical and scientific inquiry.

Choose between the colors antique white, ash grey, nude, beige, navy blue and dark green.
