The story behind the motif

The poster shows a drawing of a house designed by Erik Palmstedt for himself and his family in 1801. This was one of the last projects of his career. Palmstedt, one of Sweden's most prominent architects during the 18th and 19th centuries, created this building at Västerlånggatan 27 in Stockholm.

This house is an example of the neoclassical architecture that characterized Stockholm at this time. The symmetry of the facade and the classical elements such as the portico with columns and the large windows on the upper floors are characteristic of Palmstedt's style, which was influenced by ancient architecture.

Although Palmstedt did not get to experience his house, this project represents the last work of his career and also marks a period in Stockholm's history where classicism was the dominant architectural style.
