The story behind the motif

The Vasa Bridge in Stockholm seen to the north at the turn of the century in 1900. In the background we see the prince's stables and the Central Palace. 

Stockholm was characterized by enormous growth during this time. In just 40 years, the number of inhabitants in Stockholm had more than doubled and new technology revolutionized the city. Among other things, the trams came electrified in 1904. It was a politically turbulent time dis the labor movement demonstrated and rioted against the wretched working and living conditions that prevailed.
