The story behind the motif

The map shows everything from we see everything from Åstol and Dyrön in the south to Torp, Flatön and Skaftö in the north.
Life on Tjörn and Orust during the 18th and 19th centuries differed considerably from what we have experienced in recent times. With the exception of temporary upswings in connection with the herring periods, life was poor and hard. Only around the middle of the 19th century did schooling and health care begin to be introduced on the island, which in turn provided the conditions for a positive development.
