The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting "Stockholm's Current" from 1869, by the artist Per Wilhelm Cedergren who was a Swedish artist active during the 19th century. Cedergren was mainly known for his landscape paintings and cityscapes, and specialized in realistic views of Stockholm.
The painting shows a still view of the Stockholm Stream, the waterway between Lake Mälaren and the Salt Lake that runs past central Stockholm. To the right of the picture we see Gamla Stan and in the background Södermalm. In the picture we see a large steamship, several rowing boats and sailing ships.
