The story behind the motif
Poster with a photograph of the tinsmiths of the time high up in Stockholm City Hall's tower crowns.
The photograph was taken in 1949 and published in the newspaper Såningsmannen. During the 1940s, sheet metal workers worked at a high height without modern safety measures. Climbing onto the roof of the City Hall Tower and working on the upper parts of the tower crowns required both skill and courage.
The City Hall in Stockholm is not only known for its impressive architecture, but also for its three distinctive tower crowns that adorn its top. These crowns are one of the building's most recognizable features and have come to symbolize not only the city hall itself but also the city of Stockholm.
