The story behind the motif

Poster with a map of Stockholm created by Fredrik von Platen from 1822.

The map is part of a larger project documenting Stockholm and its surroundings during the early 19th century. The year 1822 was a time in the midst of Swedish industrialization, and even though Stockholm was still relatively small, the city had an important role as a trading and cultural center in the Nordic countries.
