The story behind the motif
A unique drawing of Rödkallen's lighthouse in Luleå, from 1871. On the picture we see the text: " Drawing for an Iron Lighthouse (immediate mirror lighthouse) to be erected on Rödkallen within Luleå Division of the Northern Lot district". Signed by Stockholm and the Four Engineers Office in March 1871 (signature of von Heidenstam).
The island of Rödkallen has been known for its fishing, especially sturgeon fishing, since the Middle Ages. Rödkallen is a really good birding spot, especially in the autumn when the island is known for its Siberian guests.
