The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful painting from 1890 by Fritz Von Dardel, a Swedish superintendent, military, painter and draftsman. The painting is of Östermalmshallen in Stockholm.
The painting's perspective is from Östermalmstorget, where we see various market stalls, horse-drawn carriages and people in the foreground. In the background on the left we see Östermalmshallen.
The hall was built in 1888 under the auspices of Aktiebolaget Östermalms Saluhallar AB, with the purpose: "to build and rent out sales halls and other apartments in Östermalm in Stockholm.". The approximately 3,000 m² hall was inaugurated on 30 November 1888 in the presence of King Oscar II.
