The story behind the motif
Poster with an old map of Marstrand in Bohuslän in 1811. In the upper left corner we see the text Special charter over Marstrand's town and fortress Carlsten, with underlying harbor. The map was drawn by lieutenant Gustaf Ad. Horn on the 30th of June in 1811. A fantastic illustration of one of Sweden's most loved holiday resorts on the west coast.
Did you know that Marstrand was founded back in the 13th century by the Norwegian king Håkon Håkonsson? Marstrand and Bohuslän did not become part of Sweden until 1658 in connection with the peace of Roskilde. The construction of Karlsten's Fortress began in the same year.
Illustrator: Gustaf Ad. Horn | Created: 1811.
Frame not included.
