The story behind the motif
Winter at Karl Johans Torg in Stockholm in the late 19th century. In the beautiful painting by Carl Johan Billmark, a number of people can be seen walking in the square around the statue depicting Karl XIV Johan - King of Sweden and Norway between 1818-1844.
Karl Johans Torg was a square in central Stockholm, located on the north side near Slussen and between the two paths that used to go towards Södermalm.
