The story behind the motif
Poster with an old advertisement for a concert in Paris in 1890. The advertisement was created by the famous French illustrator Jules Chéret.
Jules Chéret was a French painter and printmaker. In 1866 he founded a printing house in Paris. The printing house's specialty was lithographed advertising posters in several colors, something that was unusual during this time. This contributed to a new era for the artistic poster and for modern poster art.
Chéres' advertising leaflets for theatres, literary novelties or for the business world stand out for their wonderful elegance, color and originality.
