The story behind the motif
Gustaf Adolf square and the beautiful canals in Gothenburg in 1910. The photograph has an exquisite richness of detail and was taken from one of the older buildings at Brunnsparken. In the background we see the German Church.
Until until 1854 Gustaf Adolfs torg was called Stortorget when the statue of Gothenburg founder, King Gustav II Adolf was placed in the square. Until 1848, the square had been used as a salutorg, but it was then moved to Kungstorget.
