The story behind the motif

Iconic image of Greta Garbo together with the well-known Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion that many have surely seen roaring at the beginning of films over the years.

The picture was taken in 1925 as part of the promotion of Garbo's new film contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Garbo had recently debuted with a supporting role in the Swedish film Gösta Berling's saga, and through it was noticed by the CEO of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer who helped her get to Hollywood where her career took off.
