The story behind the motif
Poster with an old map of Gothenburg in 1809.
On the map we see everything from Åby and Frölunda in the south to Hisingen in the north and show how the city looked before the great city fire in 1802.
The fire destroyed 179 houses and left 2,751 people homeless. At this time, the city's population is estimated at around 13,000, which means that around 21% of Gothenburg's residents became homeless.
Engraved by: E. Åkerland | Created: 1809.
