The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting "Cutter" from 1882 painted by Nils von Höpken (1832–1901), a Swedish artist known for his marines and landscapes.
The work is typical of Höpken's style and captures one bright and calm lake scene with the boat's sails filled with wind and the calm sea surface. Many of his paintings from this time depict Swedish coastal landscapes and boating traditions.
Nils von Höpken was educated at the Art Academy in Stockholm and also studied in Germany and France. His works became popular during the 19th century and he is considered one of the foremost in Swedish maritime art.
