Théophile Alexandre Steinlen was a Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter and draughtsman, known for his Japanese-inspired art posters. He lived in Paris, where he also became a famous cartoonist in the country's picture magazines.
From 1882 he was one of the founders of Le Journal des Humoristes (1898) and illustrated several books.
