The story behind the motif
The iconic ship M/S Gripsholm leaves New York in 1932. M/S Gripsholm was part of the Swedish shipping company Svenska Amerika Linien and had many famous returning passengers who traveled regularly between Sweden and America. The shipping company's main terminals were in Gothenburg, the so-called Amerikaskjulet at Stigbergskajen, and in New York at Pier 97 in Manhattan. The ship was the world's first diesel-powered passenger ship in Atlantic traffic.
