Advertising That Wanted to Become Art
The poster was number 20 in the Konstnärliga affischer series, a Swedish attempt to give advertising the same artistic ambition as the celebrated French posters. Established visual artists were therefore engaged – here the book illustrator Elin Westman – instead of anonymous commercial artists.

The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautifully illustrated poster from 1896. On the poster we see people in motion and the text: " To Saltsjöbaden ".

Saltsjöbaden was added in the 1890s with the idea of ​​creating an exclusive villa and bathing resort on the Baltic coast near Stockholm. The town's most famous building is the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden, which was completed in 1893.
