Advertising That Wanted to Become Art
The poster was number 20 in the Konstnärliga affischer series, a Swedish attempt to give advertising the same artistic ambition as the celebrated French posters. Established visual artists were therefore engaged – here the book illustrator Elin Westman – instead of anonymous commercial artists.

The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautifully illustrated poster from 1896. On the poster we see people in motion and the text: " To Saltsjöbaden ".
Saltsjöbaden was added in the 1890s with the idea of creating an exclusive villa and bathing resort on the Baltic coast near Stockholm. The town's most famous building is the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden, which was completed in 1893.
