When Cycling Became a Public Festival
On 27 May 1912, the race was entering its fifth national edition. The organizers used Whit Monday to bring audiences and cycling’s elite together in Eskilstuna, and already named the leading participants in the poster text – an early starting field announced in advance.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage poster for the Eskilstuna Runt, the 5th national cycle race which took place on 27 May 1912. The poster also clarifies that the date is Whit Monday.

The image is of a colorfully illustrated man in sports cycling clothing, sitting on a bicycle. On the poster we also see information such as that the start and finish are in Folkets park as well as the text: "Sweden's top cyclists participate among those marked", with various subsequent names.
