A Late Detour
The painting was made in 1927, when Edwin Blashfield was 78 and already regarded as one of the United States’ leading mural painters. Among other projects, he had worked on the dome above the Library of Congress reading room in Washington. Here, he leaves the monumental public interiors for a much freer, private pictorial world.

The story behind the motif

Poster of the painting Spring scattering stars , created in 1927 by Edwin Blashfield - an American painter and muralist. Blashfield is best known for painting the murals on the dome of the Library of Congress Main Reading Room in Washington, DC.

In this fairy-tale painting we see a woman and a child standing on a moon. The woman can be interpreted as Spring , which consequently spreads its stars.
