Printed in the Middle of the War
Åkerland’s map was published in Stockholm in 1808, the same year Sweden and Denmark-Norway went to war. Norway was still united with Denmark at the time; it was not until 1814 that the Danish-Norwegian realm was dissolved. The map sheet later entered the collection of polar explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, which is included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
